This tourist traffic was a fundamental part of the brief as we undertook the masterplanning process: to be able to better cope with the volume of visitors at peak times; and to be able to offer some sort of quality experience to those who were unable to take the full distillery tour.
Building on our long-standing working relationship with the Malts Team at Diageo, we undertook a masterplanning exercise and proposed changing the arrival point by extending into a larger portion of an existing bonded warehouse. This created additional visitor facilities including a self-guided exhibition area and larger retail capability, both to be accessed by everyone whether touring the distillery or not. We were then able to create a much-improved tasting experience for the culmination of the tour itself.
Along with brand communication consultants Contagious — and the expert input of Diageo’s distillery and brand teams — the facilities now provide a more welcoming, yet focussed, brand home experience for visitors to Skye and devotees of Talisker Single Malt Whisky alike.
