Whyte & Mackay

Founded in Glasgow, Whyte & Mackay can trace its origins back to 1844; its famous double lion rampant representing one of the drinks industry’s oldest and most recognisable brands. Celebrating a new headquarter relocation to St Vincent Plaza in Glasgow, the company can proudly look to the future, after creating a working environment that meets the demands of a global business.

Four-by-Two was commissioned to create the main welcome area for staff and customers. Forming the heart of Whyte & Mackay’s head office, the bar serves a variety of purposes, acting as a reception point, as well as a place for staff and visitors to come together and unwind after a busy day.

We designed the bar so that the preparation and work areas are all hidden behind screens, creating a clean, professional front-of-house space for meetings, masterclasses, brand advocacy and for meeting guests. An interactive digital installation showcases Whyte & Mackay’s entrepreneurial spirit and global diversity, inspiring staff and customers alike.

The arrival space as a whole epitomises the warm welcome you would expect from this city and a company founded here. The open-plan floor space combining break-out zones with a digital wall creates a dynamic workspace, further enhanced by a bespoke timeline proudly showcasing the company’s heritage while also looking forward to this iconic Scottish drinks brand’s future milestones and achievements, all within an environment promoting workplace culture.
