Since 1797, Johnstons of Elgin has been a world leader in the manufacture of fine woollens and cashmere supplying the world’s top luxury brands. This esteemed fashion and homeware brand was looking to launch a new flagship store in Edinburgh’s luxury shopping destination Multrees Walk. As a Royal Warrant holder, Johnstons of Elgin wanted to create a flagship store that truly represented their rich manufacturing heritage, commitment to quality and forward-thinking innovation and this is where Four-by-Two were able to help.

As part of the initial briefing process, we met with the Johnstons of Elgin team to gain an understanding of their company and values. At the heart of their business is the belief that luxury begins with outstanding craftsmanship and the highest quality natural fibres. The label is the only manufacturer in Scotland that maintains the capability to take natural fibres from their raw state all the way to the perfectly finished product through the use of vertical mills.

Throughout the project, we built a strong rapport with the Johnstons of Elgin team which helped us to create a new home for their men’s, women’s and home wear collections and to embed their brand values in their new flagship store.

Drawing inspiration from Johnstons of Elgin’s manufacturing heritage the flagship Edinburgh store joins a family of retail spaces including New Bond Street in London and St Andrews in Scotland, creating a space that showcases their outstanding craftsmanship. The new store was designed to not only educate customers about the company’s heritage but also to showcase their collections in an authentic, tactile and luxurious environment.

“THIS EDINBURGH FLAGSHIP STORE IS ANOTHER STEPPING STONE IN CEMENTING THE JOHNSTONS OF ELGIN LEGACY THROUGH RETAIL. OUR NEW RETAIL EXPERIENCE LOCATED IN MULTREES WALK WILL OFFER A UNIQUE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE WHICH DRAWS INSPIRATION FROM OUR MANUFACTURING ROOTS. IT WILL TARGET THE DOMESTIC EDINBURGH MARKET WHILST WELCOMING INTERNATIONAL VISITORS TO SCOTLAND’S CAPITAL”.
