Four-by-Two, crafting interpretation and wayfinding. As part of our branding project at The Egg Shed, Four-by-Two was commissioned to deliver improvements along the Crinan Canal, which links Ardrishaig on Loch Fyne with the picturesque village of Crinan on the Sound of Jura.
One of these improvements is a new pause moment, consisting of a bespoke larch and steel bench. Integrated with two steel interpretation units, this brings the importance of the natural marsh environment and woodland bordering the canal to life.
The Crinan Canal route offers the chance to see lots of incredible wildlife and Four-by-Two worked with Scottish Canals to design and produce bespoke interpretation units telling the story of the local wildlife, as well as the canal’s industrial heritage.
Made of crafted Corten Steel, the bespoke interpretation and wayfinding units feature plasma cut patterns of the Crinan Canal’s identity, adding further placemaking value. Installed at a low angle, they’re ideal for children and wheelchair users.
