The Falkirk Wheel
From the majestic Kelpies to the iconic Falkirk Wheel (the world’s only rotating boat lift), Four-by-Two has worked with Scottish Canals since 2015, crafting placemaking initiatives that create change for the benefit of the whole community and identities that support the heritage of Scotland’s waterways.
Since delivering the rejuvenation project at The Falkirk Wheel in 2016, we’ve implemented several internal reconfigurations, as well as developing the look and feel of the Cargo Yard area by introducing additional brand personality, further enhancing the experience at Scottish Canals’ flagship destination, attracting over 500,000 visitors annually.
The most recent addition to The Falkirk Wheel visitor experience involved turning the main welcoming space into a point of interpretation and storytelling. To maximise flow and dwell time, we created a bespoke curved wall. Designed around the architecture of The Wheel, the wall’s detailing allows for interaction and orientation of content, giving the space a dynamic, contemporary feel.
Elsewhere on the Forth & Clyde Canal corridor from The Falkirk Wheel to Helix Park and the Kelpies, we’ve created new signage, orientation and wayfinding, encouraging greater visitor use and providing opportunities to learn about the canal. Take a closer look at how Scottish Canals are transforming Scotland’s waterways.
